The owners of The Mudcastle, Kevin and Glenys Johnston, are also the decorations hire, theming and event management company Creative Occasions Ltd. Under this banner, they are able to design, decorate or co-ordinate any event for you in any venue or they are able to hire out function accessories for you to do it yourself if you prefer. They, together with a network of carefully selected service suppliers, have organised functions for many years ranging from an exclusive wedding for four on a remote island beach to a birthday party extravaganza for 500, innovative school balls and corporate dinners to week long multi-themed, multi-venued conferences. The combination of their organisational and creative skills, their on-site venue experience and their product and service supplier network is unparalleled in the region. They are experienced, professional decorators who take the stress out of sourcing, making, co-ordinating, installing and dismantling decorations - "the elves in the night who make the magic happen".

Conference Theming
General Information

  • The fee charged for a themed design is $100.00 including GST. This fee is refunded for school ball designs. The design fee is included in themed conference dinners at The Mudcastle.
  • Included in the design, if required, is a complimentary, no-obligation referral service for service suppliers.
  • Unless stated otherwise, Creative Occasions organises, supplies, delivers, installs, dismantles and removes, where appropriate, the decorations and services you select.
  • To guarantee supply, adequate advance notice must be given of a chosen design requirement to order/import product or to secure services.
  • Stock will be dedicated only at the point that the chosen design requirements are confirmed with a deposit.
  • Adequate access time to venues must be available to complete the chosen design within deadlines imposed by the venue or the client. If this changes from the initial brief, additional labour may be charged.
  • Goods are supplied on a hire only basis with the exception of disposable one-off use items eg. foil confetti, candles, balloons, paper serviettes etc. which, if selected, we do not expect to receive back but which, if left on site, we will dismantle and/or remove for you . For the rest, any damaged or missing items will be charged at full retail, replacement or repaired cost as is deemed appropriate.
  • If successful, our terms of trade are a 50% deposit on acceptance of the design which initiates work on your function - buying, making and/or dedicating stock, securing outside service suppliers etc., and, if received within 28 days of the design completion date, guarantees the above quoted prices are protected against price increases. You will need to approximate this deposit figure if anything you select is number dependant as final numbers frequently alter. Your deposit will be receipted. The balance is due within 7 days of receipt of our invoice or a 10% penalty applies. All prices include GST.

- Designs are done on the basis that either main function room can be used.

- The inclusion of some number dependent items necessitates the double pricing structure.

1. Nelson-on-the-Sea - beautiful, creative and casual
  • An "underwater" tunnel entrance with barnacled sea goddess and seachest spilling over with golden treasure.
  • Tunnel special effects - bubble machine.
  • Walls swagged in black fishnet and backlit with fairylighting.
  • Special Effects - mirror ball, rotor and pinspots to throw the dappled light of water around initially/create mood lighting later for dancing.
  • Flexible balloon sculpture columns topped with blue and yellow foil fish simulate seaweed tendrils underwater.
  • Miniature balloon bubble strands suspended from the ceiling.
  • Low sheen overclothing squares of blue and yellow with black fishnet.
  • Table edges banded in opposite colour ribbon to the central square.
  • Blue and yellow serviettes rolled and set in the wine glass in each placesetting.
  • A spine of stones running across the table with a locally handcrafted candle centrepiece recreates The Lighthouse and The Boulder Bank, both Nelson landmark features.

  • Total cost of supply, installation and dismantling of the above design. $2200.00 shell cost plus $6.00 per head for number dependant items. Prices include GST.
2. Formal Elegance - for sheer impressiveness
  • Red carpet runner.
  • Pair of Grecian style urns of fresh flowers on cream and gold wrought iron pedastals flanking the entrance doors.
  • Walls white silk lined.
  • Silk lining backlit with fairylighting.
  • General room decoration - eight tall black standing candelabra set with elegant, locally handcrafted beeswax tapers OR
  • Eight fresh ivy topiaries individually wired with clear flickering fairylighting.
  • Tables banded in a white sheer ribbon with gold wired edges.
  • Table centrepieces - black wrought iron candelabra, elegant beeswax tapers and a central arrangement of fresh flowers set above the sight line.

  • Total cost of supply, installation and dismantling of the above design. $1700.00 shell cost plus $10.00 per head for number dependant items. Prices include GST.
3. The Seventies Revisited - all the lurid tackiness you can handle
  • A "red" carpet runner of artificial green grass and a trio of larger than life papier mache toadstools. A beaded curtain through which to enter.
  • Walls of coloured slit foil curtaining with clear fairylighting.
  • Lighting and Special Effects - a mirror ball, rotor and pinspots and a smoke machine for the initial entrance effect.
  • A genuine Wurlitzer jukebox loaded with seventies music for the pre-dinner drinks.
  • Heliumed balloon arches throughout the room constructed in Pink, Yellow, Purple, Orange, Brown and Teal.
  • On the dancefloor, seemingly "dancing" Jungle printed latex balloons on White cups and canes.
  • Tables overlaid with coloured low sheen tableclothing squares and scattered with "Flower Power" scatters.
  • Table centrepieces - beds of orange and lime green party grass, recycled green glass bowls of floating candles, purple glitter and artificial fruit garnishes wired to the rim.
  • Two paper serviettes per person in opposing colours tousle folded in the wineglass in each placesetting.

  • Total cost of supply, installation and dismantling of the above design. $1900.00 shell cost plus $4.00 per head for number dependant items. Prices include GST.

Of course, you are not limited to these themes. A design can be commissioned for other themes and different budget figures . A fee of $100.00 including GST is charged.

Conference Theming - Printed Balloons
  • Creative Occasions Ltd holds stock of "Nelson - Add Life to your Conference" printed balloons in Blue, Golden Yellow and White.

  • They are printed neck down for helium or cup and cane use. Cost is $1.30 ea including GST.

  • We can arrange for balloon print runs of your own corporate logo. (Minimum run 300)

Creative Occasions Hire Items
General Information

Although an attempt has been made to divide the list of available items into categories for ease of reference, the lists are not mutually exclusive. We do not hire out fairylighting, slit foil curtaining or bolts of frostcloth, net etc. unless we install and dismantle them ourselves as part of an overall venue decoration. Some more portable balloon sculpture items may be hired. Pickup is either from The Mudcastle, Upper Moutere or The Party Shop, Nelson by prior arrangement.

A hire agreement outlining responsibilities of the hirer, return date etc. is completed and payment must be made in full prior to uplifting the hire items. The Party Shop is able to accept cash, cheque, credit card and EFTPOS transactions whereas payment must be either cash or cheque if Creative Occasions items are collected from The Mudcastle.

Minimum hire order is $30.00. All prices include GST but do not include delivery and pickup. Items are returned to the Party Shop or The Mudcastle as agreed.

CREATIVE OCCASIONS HIRE AGREEMENT
The Hire Items listed below are supplied to the abovementioned client on these conditions:
  1. The Hire Items shall at all times remain the property of Creative Occasions Ltd.

  2. The Client shall not sell, encumber or part with possession or control of the Hire Items.

  3. The Client is responsible for the safe custody and good condition of the Hire Items from the time of pickup until the time of return.

  4. Any damage or loss to the Hire Items not specified elsewhere in this agreement will be charged at replacement value.

  5. Unless otherwise agreed by arrangement, the full hire fee payable must be paid prior to taking receipt of the Hire Items.

  6. Any mutually agreed departure from these conditions eg. Creative Occasions Ltd is to deliver and/or collect the Hire Items - is to be noted on this agreement and signed.

  7. The Client shall be responsible for and indemnify Creative Occasions Ltd. against all costs, losses, claims or damages brought against or suffered by Creative Occasions Ltd. arising directly or indirectly out of any act or default of The Client in respect of the Hire Items or in relation to any breach of these clauses.

  8. Penalty charges of 10% or the full amount of any hire(s) unable to be honoured,whichever is greater,will be payable if the Hire Items are not returned within the agreed timeframe.

  9. Candelabra are to be transported with the spikes protected by corks and cleaned with boiling water only. A fee of $5.00 per candelabra will be charged if they are not returned with corks and clean.
