As in-house guests, a substantial multi-course breakfast is included in the tariff. This is an informal and convivial meal served in the open plan kitchen or the main turret for all but quests in the Suites who may choose to have their breakfast delivered to them. One of the breakfast highlights is our own hand-made treacle bread and guests are frequently greeted on arrival with the wafting aroma of it freshly baking for the following day's breakfasts.
If arranged in advance, a sumptuous evening dinner can be enjoyed in the dining room ($60.00 per person including GST). Alternatively, a simpler buffet dinner platter can be served to your suite ($50.00 per person including GST). Scrumptious picnic lunches are possible for day outings ($25.00 per head including GST).
We are also able to cater for a dinner party for you during your stay, should you wish to entertain friends and family living locally. We are fully licensed to serve alcohol Monday to Sunday from 7am to 3am of the following day. You will find our in-house beverage list in your room should you wish to sample our superb local beverages.
Unlike other venues, The Mudcastle is the home of Kevin and Glenys which they make available for private functions. This lends a unique quality to the ambience, widely commented on by guests.
The Mudcastle is also home to the front plate glass window of Glossops Eaterie, the restaurant Glenys used to own and run in Wellington in the 1980s. Although maintaining some of the Glossops concept, the Mudcastle is not a casual dining restaurant but caters exclusively for private functions by prior arrangement and is fully licensed.
Per person function charges include the hire of the venue and grounds, full set up and dismantling as required and co-hosting with you by the owners to ensure that your guests are looked after and that everything runs smoothly.
With years of experience in catering and venue decorating, your hosts Glenys and Kevin know how to bring to life an occasion that will be etched in your memory.
Part of the secret lies in the setting of finery, laid out to a co-ordinated design by those with an eye for detail.
Decorative touches vary greatly from function to function and depend on the level of formality and impact you desire. The selection is yours to individualise your function as required. Or you can theme your function using props from

As we have a number of staging costs and close the B&B side of the business to the public for these evenings, the minimum number required to stage a Fawlty Turret Evening is 50. If you don't have the minimum number in your group, we run a series of open night dinner theatre evenings throughout the year. Click through to our

As the script is not custom written for the group from pre-supplied information like the Murder Mystery Dinner scripts are, this option has less pre-function work to be done by the organiser. Should you not meet the cost effective minimum number but not want to share the evening with anyone else, we would either adjust the per person cost accordingly or, for very small groups up to 12, we could alter the format to include an interesting overnight stay and chaotic breakfast.
Cost per person is $69.00 incl GST and includes themed decorations, a four course dinner and a cleverly scripted performance encouraging as much audience participation as is preferred.
For these nights, beverages on offer from the bar are selected from our current function beverage list. Generally fruit juice, a range of bottled beers and a selection of still white, red and sparkling wines is offered. We do not generally offer spirits for dinner theatre evenings to keep costs down and to speed up bar service for large groups. We can run a cash bar if individuals are paying for their own, add the bar tab to the main account or a combination of the two, provided that we know in advance.
Bus driver/s meals. Should you be using bus transport, we generally accommodate the bus driver/s in a separate suite for the duration of the evening and charge $30.00 per person for dinner to be served.
Dinner Theatre Evening arrival time. Generally 6pm-6.30pm with drinks in the Bar before the commencement of the evening's entertainment. As with any other staged performance, we need this to be fairly accurate - early arrival can throw the necessary arrangements every bit as much as late stragglers. So, unless you are all arriving by bus, we suggest you tell everyone no earlier than 6pm and no later that 6.30pm. Weekday bookings are able to start slightly later to allow time for going home to change.
The entertainment generally concludes around 10.30pm allowing you to relax and debrief over a few drinks or coffee before retiring to your rooms or going home.
Rocky Horror Nights

1. Wet Weather Cover.
For additional usable area for your guests in the event of bad weather or as shade provision in the event of a hot day, a Forest Green marquee awning with medieval trim is available for installation on Black wrought iron spear-pointed stanchions for the patio outside the bar. $150.00
2. Pre-Function Fingerfood.
A changing variety of seasonal delicacies presented on garnished platters.
3. Champagne Cocktails or Mulled Wine.
Poured on arrival as an ice-breaker, Champagne Cocktails $7.00 per person, Mulled Wine $6.00 per person.
4. Decorative Touches.
These items are what personalise any function so the choice is left to the client to select according to their practical requirements eg. a caketable if the function is a birthday or wedding anniversary celebration etc. The style then becomes a matter of personal preference rather than a "package". Confirmation and Cancellation Policies
Confirmation of your booking - date, time and expected numbers - is appreciated as soon as you are able, Final numbers need to be confirmed no later than the day before the function. After this, as you will appreciate, the dining table arrangements, decorations and a large proportion of the food purchases and preparation will have been made. Consequently, you will be charged for this confirmed number of people as a minimum.
Our Special Requirements
Our only requests to you as guests in our home are, firstly, that footwear worn inside is not of the type that will damage our clay and timber floors ie.
no fine high heels and, secondly, that a no smoking policy is observed inside. This last request is now law but the footwear issue is one that needs to be included on the invitations so that guests are aware and worded in such a way that it is treated seriously. "I'll walk on my tiptoes" just doesn't work for us any longer.
Lastly, if babies and children are invited, they must be supervised at all times for their own safety. Hosts and parents need to feel comfortable that our furnishings and animals will be safe and that the enjoyment of other guests will not be disrupted.
Alcohol Policy
The Mudcastle buildings and the entire grounds are Fully Licensed giving us the flexibility to run outdoor bar stations for functions in any part of the grounds. We can put together a unique selection for each function or we can use our Function Beverage List that provides juice/punch/splits, a selection of beers and mid-priced wines to keep costs manageable. BYO is not an option. The offering of spirits needs to be discussed in advance as does the method by which the bar is run eg. all on the one account, a bar limit then a cash bar, a cash bar from the start etc. A sample beverage list is available to view by

Payment
Payment is required at the conclusion of the function with everything appearing on one account. However, individual bar tabs are possible. Methods for payment are cash, cheque, Mastercard, Visa and Eftpos.
Please note that there is a 5% surcharge if it is intended that the entire function is to be paid by credit card. For corporate functions, a 7 day account can be sent by prior arrangement.
